Kelly Moncus is a 6th generation Texan and a resident of
Austin, Texas. He began working in the construction industry while
in college building custom homes, doing both the framing &
cabinetry. Later on, Kelly moved onto the commercial building of
numerous schools, shopping centers, office parks and various other
projects in many parts of Texas and across the U. S. After a forced
retirement and 3-1/2 year battle with cancer, Kelly came to the
realization that he needed something creative and therapeutic in his
life. It was at that time he became fascinated with Wood Turning.
Without the benefit of so much as one lesson, Kelly Moncus dove into
this endeavor. After many starts and stops and a 9 hour back
surgery, the light bulb finally lit! After trying many times to
force what he had in mind as to what a piece of raw wood was going
to be shaped into, it finally dawned on him that he was not
listening to the wood. It was then that Kelly discovered that each
piece will tell him what it will allow him to turn it into. Since
that day of revelation, Kelly’s skills have improved 10-fold, along
with his passion to create.
Wood turning has become a labor of love for Kelly and he feels
blessed each day to be able to take a raw piece of wood & turn it
into a thing of beauty for admirers to enjoy and pass on to future
generations
