Deb
Gioia, born of Italian immigrants, was raised in St. Louis,
Missouri. There she earned a BA in Psychology and a
Master’s degree in Counseling. However art was a recurring theme
throughout her life, methodically developing her talent while
pursuing other interests. In 2004, after several years in private
practice, she moved to North Padre Island, Texas to work full time
as an artist.
Steel, copper, brass, stained glass, wire, welding, brazing,
soldering, these are a few of the things that make up the components
and processes of Deb Gioia’s work. A free assembly of shape and
design create her unique and whimsical forms of sculpture. From
toaster parts to marbles, the work expresses the deep and rugged
adventure of imagination without restrictions. A functional piece
may tell time, or another might focus on the expression of an
emotion. No two pieces are alike. Each individual art form has its
own expressive flare.
